A rare and important sofa, designed by Finn Juhl in 1951 for Baker Furniture Company, Michigan.
Introduced to the American design community by Edgar Kaufmann Jr, an art collector and director of the Industrial Design Department at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Finn Juhl got in contact with Mr. Hollis Baker in 1949 and thereafter started his collaboration with Baker Furniture.
While many of the Finn Juhls designs produced by Baker where closely related to designs previously produced in Denmark, the present sofa was exclusively produced by Baker in limited numbers.
Other designers of the period include Isamu Noguchi, Flemming Lassen, Arne Jacobsen, Gio Ponti, and Carlo Mollino.
