Dining set from American midcentury craftsman George Nakashima. The set features a large round black walnut dining table with four splayed tapered dowel legs The table top showcases book matched black walnut slabs with striking contrasting sap wood detail. The black walnut chairs have the same striking detail in their seats indicating they were created from the same slab of wood. Each chair has a curved, peaked backrest atop carved spindles, inspired by the Windsor chair and Shaker pieces. The seats are hand-sculpted for comfort and sit on four tapered dowel legs, joined to the chair at a distinctively steep angle. The backrests have distinctive tenon joints. The set, produced in 1961, has been verified by the Nakashima Foundation and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Please inquire for further details.
