Vintage Design

A stylish and extremely well made pair of Danish vintage armchairs in Cherry wood. They were recently imported from Denmark, they date from the 1950-60’s.

They are of amazing quality and are very comfortable. They look amazing from all angels, with light wood frames that wrap all the way around.

We have had the frames stripped and re-polished, the seats have been fully re-upholstered in a cream boucle fabric. The condition is superb throughout.

Pair of Four White Harry Bertoia “Diamond Chairs” Produced by Knoll, 1950s https://www.ablcui.shop/product/pair-of-four-white-harry-bertoia-diamond-chairs-produced-by-knoll-1950s/ https://www.ablcui.shop/product/pair-of-four-white-harry-bertoia-diamond-chairs-produced-by-knoll-1950s/#respond Fri, 27 Sep 2024 10:45:38 +0000 https://ablcui.shop/product/pair-of-four-white-harry-bertoia-diamond-chairs-produced-by-knoll-1950s/ A set of four of 1960s “421” Diamond chairs by Harry Bertoia for Knoll, in white with contrasting black legs.

More information about the designer:
Harry Bertoia’s finest achievement, the striking 421 chair is welded from steel rods and coated in Rilsan plastic. These perfectly shaped chairs are comfortable even without seat pads. They would make the most stylish of garden or patio chairs.

More information about the manufacturer:
Hans Knoll was born in 1914 in Stuttgart, Germany, into the successful manufacturing family behind Walter Knoll & Co. Early-20th-century Germany was an epicenter of modernist design theory—most notably expressed in the products and practices of the Deutscher Werkbund association of artists, architects, designers, and industrialists, as well as the influential Bauhaus school—which advocated for design rooted in the principles of rationality, functionalism, and mass production. This milieu had a profound influence on Hans and inspired him to produce furniture for the new age. In 1937, after a stint in London, he moved to the United States and brought his modernist vision with him.

Knoll’s signature pieces include Breuer’s Wassily Chair (1925), Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair (1929/1948), Harry Bertoia’s Diamond Chair (1952), Eero Saarinen’s Tulip Armchair (1957), as well as Florence‘s own furniture collection developed through the 1950s.
