If an employee of Herman Miller were to have a child, they were given an Eames “RAR” rocking chair to rock the newborn. It would be marked with a small placard commemorating the name and birth date of the child.
This beautiful example is one of those rockers. It dates to July of 1981 when the RAR was not commercially available and has features distinctive of this era including a more substantial wire rod base, and a parchment shell with matching crimp-cord upholstered in a sunflower yellow Alexander Girard hopsack fabric.
