MID CENTURY MODERN
LYTESPAN 1959
TENSION POLE LAMP!
ICONIC 3 GOLD SHADES WITH HANDLES!
FITS 8 FT. CEILING
This is both an iconic & gorgeous Lightolier atomic age tension pole lamp! It is a gleaming tower of mid century technology and style!
The Lytespan track style, developed in 1959, permits multiple shade usage and the Lytespan tension pole lamp was the world’s FIRST track lighting! This lamp changed Lightolier’s history because their track lighting became so popular all over the world, Lightolier soon shifted their focus on commercial sales of track lighting and put residential lighting second.
Gerald Thurston, Lightolier’s in-house designer, worked with the electrical engineers and designed most of the early shades that were used on this new type of lighting. These 3 gold shades with handles are a marvelous example. There are other shades, tables and up-lamps which were introduced from 1959-1963 which are also spectacular designs.
Finding these Lytespan pole lamps is becoming very difficult and we’ve not seen one with these three original gold shades in many years now! If you have been waiting to add one of these historic design & lighting icons to your
magnificent interiors, NOW is the time! There may be no other chance.
Each lamp switches on by itself. Anyone who is familiar with track lighting will understand the concept of how fixtures are removed and may be placed in new spots or positions on the track. This pole has track on both sides and so lamp shade units can be placed on either or both for whatever dramatic or cool illumination look you want to create!
You can acquire all sorts of other shades and change the appearance and even the period of this pole lamp with lamp units from the 70s, 80s or today. It can become habit forming and many lucky owners keep multiple sets of shades to match their mood or changing interior decor!
These pole lamps are one of the most fun interior design additions one can make to a deserving interior! Decorators love them for their versatility and they are increasingly hard finds.
Lamp and shades show typical age wear for the vintage and type of lamp. These original shades still have great gloss and the track also still gleams. Two of the lamp units appear to have newer sockets with shorter turn switches than the other. Minor scratches, rubs and age wear to the mechanism and track. Presents beautifully!
This is one of the world’s greatest pole lamps and has a historic legacy in changing how homes, stores and corporate workplaces would be illuminated for many decades after its introduction!
This will make the ultimate MCM gift for the person on the top of your list, or for yourself, if even
Santa can’t find you one of these original Lytespans to illuminate your interiors!
