Set of 6 Cesca chairs designed by Marcel Breuer, produced by Gavina in 1960.
The chairs show slight signs of wear, the seats are original Vienna straw.
The combination of Vienna straw and tubular metal, tradition and innovation, Thonet and Bauhaus, is what characterises the legendary B32 chair, called Cesca, designed by Marcel Breuer. Born in Pécs, Hungary, in 1902, Breuer was from a very young age one of the main protagonists of the Bauhaus, where he entered as a student at the age of 18 and immediately became a teacher (from 1922 to 1928). Walter Gropius, director of the school, invited him to direct the furniture workshop and it was in this context that Breuer was able to carry out some of his most important experiments, combining art, industrial production and craft knowledge. Cesca is certainly one of his most successful works, together with the B3 armchair, later known as Wassily.
